Although she had American Indian and Irish heritage, she was affected by a Haitian Voodoo curse. The entity involved was identified as the Haitian demon Papa Legba, linked to death and suicide. The curse's origin traced back five generations to an ancestor who practiced Voodoo in Ireland. The demonic spirit Legba convinced this Irish ancestor to commit suicide, a human sacrifice that enabled the curse to endure through generations.
